Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…

This weekend saw the opening of the Avoriaz pistes, Les Gets, and Super Morzine. The hills were alive with the sound of music: the sweet sound of skis on snow!

Expect to see a lot more snow in the near future, with almost a metre forecast over the next week. The snow line is also gradually descending, bringing snow down to 900 metres tonight and tomorrow. The ice rink is also set to open soon, bringing a true Christmas feel to the Morzine town centre.

Live entertainment at the open mic night in the Rhodos bar is sure to impress, everyone is encouraged to get on up and strut their stuff. On top of this, there are live dj nights in most of the bars on the Rue du Bourg and surrounding the tourist office. Let the party begin!

Snow is falling, all around us…

For the past fews days we’ve been coated in cloud, with tons of snow softly descending. Morzine is now covered in a thick blanket, and the Avoriaz resort is opening early this weekend, with the Fête de la Glisse. This promises to be an atmospheric weekend with gear testing, fun and games for the kids, and a concert in the evening for the party animal in us all!

With lots more snow expected, chalet companies are offering great discount on holidays over the Christmas season, and now is the perfect time to book a cheeky Christmas break on the mountain. Uncrowded pistes, lots of fresh powder, and that Christmas buzz we all love. What more could you want!

Welcome to Powder Country

The Portes Du Soleil area is busy slowly warming up for the cool-down,  with businesses feverishly finishing off the last of the little jobs that need to be done before the serious business of skiing starts. New fascias are going up, shop fronts are being revived with exciting window stickers, and the last of the Christmas lights are being put up.

The locals are all starting to wrap up in anticipation of what promises to be a chilly winter and new gear is flying out of the ski shops, haute couture on the pistes!

Nights are getting cooler, and every morning we are greeted by crisp frost and snow capped mountains. The ground is well and truly frozen, and standing out of the sun means cold bones and chattering teeth. The sight of birds travelling south in flocks is a regular one.

It’s been snow snow snow since Friday night, and we’re seeing a massive trasformation from pretty autumn browns and reds to beautiful white snow covered landscapes. Welcome to powder country.

Buses packed full of people are travelling up the winding mountain roads from the valley, flights to Geneva are getting booked up, and chalets are completing the last of their renovations and preparations for a swarm of piste happy tourists. We’ve got our vans ready and waiting for a busy season of transfers, and we’re looking forward to many a safe and timely journey. À bientôt!
